LUBBOCK (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Lubbock have arrested Mansfield native Austin Hasten for allegedly murdering one of his neighbors. The 22-year-old is currently living in Lubbock while attending classes at Texas Tech University.

Hasten and the female victim lived in the same apartment complex, but the extent of their relationship is still unknown. The victim’s apartment unit was the scene of a fire on Friday night. Firefighters said that the victim’s body was found inside of the burning building and showed signs of trauma. The victim was later identified as 51-year-old Michele Terry. Police have not said if she lived alone.

Law enforcement was called to the scene because the fire appeared to be suspicious.

According to witnesses, Hasten walked up to the scene with blood on his hands and attacked a police officer. Authorities stated that the suspect tried to steal the officer’s gun before being wrestled to the ground and taken into custody. Because of that incident, Hasten has been charged with assault on a public servant, attempt to take a weapon from a public servant, and resisting arrest — in addition to murder. A police investigation is still being conducted.

Hasten is now sitting behind bars under a $3 million bond. Records show that he has an extensive criminal history in Brazos County, where he had been arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2010, and then again for intoxicated assault with a vehicle and assault on a public servant in 2011. He graduated from Mansfield High School, and his father is a prominent attorney in Arlington.
