FORT WORTH (AP) - A North Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend.
Jurors in Fort Worth on Thursday convicted 37-year-old Raheem Smith of murder and then ordered him to serve the maximum life behind bars.
The case involves the March 2013 slaying of 23-year-old Natasha McDade, who was shot in the head while she and her infant son stayed with relatives in Fort Worth.
Investigators say Smith, who’s the father of the child, shot himself in the head after confronting and attacking the woman — but he recovered. Smith must serve 30 years before he’s eligible for parole.
